The competition present in the world of football is no new discovery for FC Barcelona. From the happenings on the pitch to those that take place away from it, football remains as cutthroat as ever. However, in these times of financial fragility, Barcelona have come to understand that better than ever.
Even when it comes to their transfer targets, La Blaugrana either have to act quickly or face the challenge of other teams who are willing to go the distance for certain players. While Barcelona could have competed with these teams on equal financial standings a few years ago, that is simply no longer the case for them.
Unable to establish equal grounds when it comes to their economic offerings, Barcelona must depend more on their prestige as a club and work to seal deals on a timely basis. Keeping that in mind, the operation concerning Dani Olmo seems to be becoming more problematic for Barcelona.
As per the words of Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, German giants Bayern Munich have now also joined the race for RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo, who just so happens to be on the agenda and list of Barcelona as well. For the Bavarian giants, Olmo would be a good addition to a team that lost the Bundesliga to Bayer Leverkusen this season.
Moreover, it has already been established that the Spanish forward has a release clause of €60 million that can be activated in the summer. Bayern seems likely to have that kind of financial backing, while Barcelona seem to be quite restricted in terms of their spending allowance, something that could hold them back should they wish to participate in any kind of bidding war or economic tussle.
Other teams from the English Premier League are also reportedly interested in Olmo’s services. However, it is safe to assume that both Bayern and Barcelona may have to directly lock horns for his signature. Yet, given the price tag attached to the Bundesliga star, it may be difficult to see Barcelona realistically overtake the Bavarians in such a contest.
Moreover, with Barcelona more interested in signing a top-level pivot instead, that would remain their first choice when it comes to investing sizeable amounts of funds. Only after that would they look to reinforce the frontline, where the name of Nico Williams is speculated to be their ideal recruit.
