FC Barcelona tend to remain quite attentive to the opportunities that present themselves in the market these days. It is quite well-known by now that the club’s financial situation is not exactly the most stable, and it suits them to be a bit more cautious when they buy. However, Barcelona has managed to secure some good deals through their route in the past.

This time around, there is talk of the club possibly considering options that could be looked at as future alternatives for Robert Lewandowski. Despite his top form, the Polish ace is definitely an aging player and there may soon come a time where he will definitely need a successor at Barcelona.

While there are reportedly a few names that the club could consider for this role, the most feasible option in terms of being a market opportunity would be 24-year-old Canadian striker Jonathan David. Currently a player for French side Lille, his contract with the Ligue 1 side expires next year.

With such an in-form player set to be without a club in the summer of 2025, FC Barcelona and several other clubs are attentive to his situation. According to Mundo Deportivo, however, German giants Bayern Munich are now also reportedly interested in signing the Ligue 1 forward.

So far this season, Jonathan David has already scored 13 goals and has provided 2 assists in 19 games. His numbers speak for themselves, and the fact that he was the goalscorer who ended up giving Real Madrid their first taste of defeat in the UEFA Champions League this season only
adds to his growing list of achievements.

Both Bayern Munich and Barcelona, however, are in positions where they each have an elite striker who is currently aging, and they need a medium-term solution such as the Canadian striker. Harry Kane, aged 31, continues to provide and deliver for the Bavarians, while Lewandowski continues to do the same for Barça.

While there is no doubt that the club will look to retain Lewandowski beyond this season if he maintains his current level, it must be kept in mind that he will be 37 years old soon. This reality is the primary driving force between the Catalan giants potentially wanting a signing like the Lille striker, although Bayern Munich will likely provide some tough competition now.
