It is no secret that FC Barcelona are set to lose one of the pillars of their golden generation in the form of a departing Sergio Busquets, and since then, an absolute priority for the Catalan club has been to find an accomplished and adequate replacement.
One such name on the list of potential successors is German midfielder Joshua Kimmich who currently plies his trade for Bundesliga side Bayern Munich, but recent developments have been very telling of the possibility of such a transfer.
As reported by SPORT and as interviewed by Sky Sports Germany, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer has come out to openly criticize Barcelona’s pursuit of Kimmich and has even suggested that the way Barcelona are still following him makes no sense, stating:
I don’t understand why they [Barca] openly and offensively ‘flirt’ with our player. Joshua Kimmich is an absolute cornerstone for us. He’s firmly in our plans for the future, for sure.
Bayern have gone on to emphasize that the 28-year-old midfielder is not for sale as per the importance he holds within the German club’s spectrum.
Joshua Kimmich himself has also publicly given his statement on the topic. Following being asked regarding the connection to Barcelona in recent weeks and their respective consequences, and while the midfielder idolized Xavi Hernandez during his youth, the German midfielder had the following to say.
I don’t understand why they [Barca] openly and offensively ‘flirt’ with our player. Joshua Kimmich is an absolute cornerstone for us. He’s firmly in our plans for the future, for sure.
