In the last few weeks, Nico Williams has emerged as the most likely candidate to reinforce the left wing at Barcelona. The Catalans are looking to strengthen this area of the attack this summer, but Nico Williams is not the only player they have in their sights for this purpose.
The Blaugrana club also had some other compelling names on its radar, most notably, the Liverpool winger Luis Diaz and the RB Leipzig forward Dani Olmo.
In addition to them, Xavi Simons is another name that has aroused the interest of Barcelona. But that interest has largely only been hypothetical and distant at best. This is particularly the case because of the transfer figures that the media is reporting for a potential move.
A potential move to Barcelona is completely ruled out, but according to SPORT, Bayern Munich are willing to splash the cash on the former La Masia graduate.
The Bavarians are pushing to sign him, and have already put in an offer of €90 million for him. If this move materializes at this cost, Simons would become the second most expensive signing for Bayern, only after Harry Kane.
Simons left Barcelona in 2019 to join Paris Saint Germain. However, his time at the French club did not turn out exactly as planned, and he left to play for PSV in the Eredivisie on loan, before making the move to the Bundesliga on another loan.
In this latter competition, he had a very good year with RB Leipzig, which has raised the interest of the Bavarian giants in him.
PSG are open to selling him for around €70 million, and Bayern Munich can end up getting him, although Manchester United are also in the race. But as these two clubs vie for his signing, it looks to be increasingly clear that Simons is not going to return to Barcelona this summer.
