The FC Barcelona defender and one of the captains of the team this season, Ronald Araujo, has been strongly linked with a move to Germany in the last few weeks. The Bavarian giants Bayern Munich are very interested in the centre-back and want him either in this winter window or in the coming summer window.
There have been reports of a contact having taken place between Ronald Araujo himself and the Bayern Munich head coach, Thomas Tuchel.
The former Chelsea coach is reported to be highly keen on landing the Uruguayan defender and believes his arrival can significantly enhance his team’s defence, which is the only weak area in his squad.
However, despite this strong interest from the Germans, neither Barcelona nor the player himself has shown any willingness to part from one another.
Still, Bayern Munich is declining to give up on their efforts to sign the defender, and according to SPORT, are willing to offer more than €70 million for his transfer. They believe the Catalan club would find such an offer irresistible because of the financial problems being faced by them.
The report by SPORT further mentions that Tuchel is pushing internally at his club to keep the pursuit of the centre-back hot, as he considers him to be one of the best defenders in the world.
When the Bavarians made their offer to the Uruguayan some weeks ago, Araujo declined the proposal but still showed gratitude for the interest in him. The Bavarians were planning to get the defender in the winter window, but Barcelona did not even give them a price to negotiate upon.
For now, Bayern remain confident that they can convince Araujo to come to Munich by offering him double his current salary. They also believe Barcelona will be forced to accept an offer for Araujo if their other transfer do not go through.
On the other hand, the Catalans themselves are completely calm, as they believe Araujo is fully committed with the club. Deco is going to prioritise his contract extension, which currently expires in 2026, and increase his salary as he is one of the lowest paid players in the squad.
