It has been nine years since FC Barcelona last beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League but the curse was finally broken last night when Hansi Flick’s men ran 4-1 winners over Vincent Kompany’s team in an iconic night at the Montjuic.

Prior to this game, Barcelona’s last five results against Bayern Munich read as follows: 8-2, 3-0, 3-0, 2-0, and 3-0, all in favor of the German team. The 8-2 defeat in Lisbon was one of the most humiliating losses in the Catalan club’s history, orchestrated by Hansi Flick.

Flick, who was Bayern Munich’s manager back then, has now reversed the jinx by managing Barcelona this season. The 4-1 victory he orchestrated last night was easily the Catalan club’s most significant European win since their 3-0 thrashing of Liverpool at Camp Nou in 2019.

Now, as per SPORT, Bayern Munich who were also looking for a new manager back in the summer were in talks to re-appoint Hansi Flick. The German coach even held talks with the club and there were discussions on squad planning too.

However, Flick was not sure about signing a long-term contract with Bayern and wanted just a season-long deal. The Bundesliga giants however were looking at a long-term commitment and were dilly-dallying, giving Barcelona the chance to swoop in.

Eventually, Barcelona appointed Flick as Xavi Hernandez’s successor while Bayern decided to go with Vincent Kompany. Now, as fate may have it, the two teams met in the Champions League and Flick managed to get one over his former employers.

The appointment of Hansi Flick has been one of Barcelona’s biggest successes in recent times. No one would have imagined the kind of impact the German coach has had in such a short span of time and it has been a dream phase for the club.

With El Clasico coming up next, Hansi Flick has the next big test on his horizon and one can trust him to pass it with flying colors. Let’s wait and see how Barcelona perform against their league rivals and how things pan out for the German coach going forward.
