Young players have played an important role in helping FC Barcelona win the Spanish Supercopa and get into the pole position to win La Liga this season. Gavi, being one of the most influential of these youngsters, has been phenomenal and has impressed both his admirers and detractors with his performances.
However, Gavi’s long-term continuation at FC Barcelona is not entirely ensured, because of his contractual situation. The club and the player have already arrived on terms, and have signed the renewal agreement, which goes till June 2026, and puts a €1 billion release clause on the player.
This contract renewal is yet to be registered with La Liga though, which is the main issue in this contract renewal saga. La Liga believes FC Barcelona will not be conforming to the Financial Fair Play rules if they register Gavi and other players at the reported wages, and is thus not willing to register the new contract.
While the club is doing its best to reassure Gavi that his renewal is on top of their priority lists for the summer, other clubs have become attentive to his situation. SPORT reports that Bayern Munich is one such club that is willing to offer Gavi a big contract if his contractual situation is not resolved by June, and he becomes a free agent this summer.
The report names Chelsea as another club that is trying to negotiate with the player’s agent for a move in case his renewal is jeopardized. However, the player and FC Barcelona both are fully committed to one another, and their priority is to work out a solution for this problem as soon as possible.
Only if matters with La Liga are unable to be resolved, Gavi will consider moving to another club in Europe, where his demand is already high.
