In order to truly see a project materialize, FC Barcelona need to work with patience and confidence. Rome was not built in a day, and a financially troubled Barça will definitely not be either. Instead, Barcelona need to work on a long-term project with a level of understanding that they are not in the best of shape.

However, it is also simultaneously true that the Catalan giants would not be willing to simply lay their arms down and not compete for silverware. It is precisely because of this hunger for success that Joan Laporta and the Barcelona board have decided to sack Xavi Hernandez and bring in a coach with a proven pedigree.

The man now expected to make a difference at Barcelona will be none other than Hansi Flick. A former coach of German side Bayern Munich, Flick is the head coach who helped the Bavarians win the coveted sextuple, a prestigious achievement they share with Barcelona.

Even for Bayern star Thomas Muller (h/t Barca Times), the appointment of Hansi Flick seems like the right choice at FC Barcelona:

“I’m happy for Hansi, I know him very well. Both FCB (Barça and Bayern) are difficult clubs because the expectations are very high. I hope that he’ll be able to celebrate a lot of success there.”

Having played under Flick at Bayern Munich and in the German National team, perhaps no one truly would be a better person to speak on the coach’s appointment than Thomas Muller himself.

The Bayern star is also someone Barcelona themselves have come up against often, with both great and not-so-great memories associated with the clashes against his team.

Speaking of Flick, however, the German coach is expected to bring his own unique drive to Barcelona. An aggressive brand of football that focuses on attack based on overloading, his tactics would have been nothing new for Muller either, who enjoyed great success because of them.

Now, however, all Barcelona can do is hope things click in Catalonia as well. La Blaugrana need to be competitive, and across all competitions. Flick is a proven winner, and that is the reason that Barcelona has decided to bet on him despite being in such a dire situation.
