Recent weeks have been hard for FC Barcelona, and especially for their players as well. Even the latest edition of El Clasico has left a sour taste in the mouths of all those close to La Blaugrana. Naturally, it has led to a lot of speculation about various futures connected to Barcelona.

Xavi Hernandez’s future beyond this season is still in jeopardy, and there is no conclusion to be found there. However, just as there has been criticism and reevaluations of the likes of Joao Cancelo, there is another key Barcelona player who is now being linked to a potential move away from the club.

According to Florian Plettenberg, there are new rumors emerging about the possibility of German giants Bayern Munich now being interested in the services of Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong. However, he also states that since the Dutchman has been a long-term target for theirs since quite some time, they have in reality never lost sight of a potential move for him.

Moreover, it would appear that Bayern believes that De Jong’s arrival would help them in their midfield problem. With a lack of the right kind of profiles being a bit of a problem with the Bavarians at the moment, they seem to reportedly think that De Jong’s introduction would help out a lot.

However, despite the emergence of these rumors, the report states that the Barcelona star’s current trail to Bayern is not very ‘hot’. He is still on the list of potential candidates, but it is not a given that Bayern will definitely advance for him in the summer transfer window.

Furthermore, there is also another aspect of a potential deal that seems to be putting Bayern off. With De Jong’s contract and salary being one of the most lucrative at Barcelona, the Bavarians do not exactly want to take upon themselves the responsibility of handling such an expensive contract.
