As more and more time passes, FC Barcelona inch closer and closer to the summer transfer window. In terms of what the Catalan giants actually plan to do, drastic measures are to be expected from them. The disappointment of this season has to serve as a reminder to Barcelona as they plan for the future.

One area that Barcelona thus wish to improve and update upon is that of the left-winger role. While the first priority is still to bring in an elite pivot to balance the team, Xavi’s demands call for the signing of a certain La Liga winger who could fulfill the needs of the team on that left wing.

The man that Barcelona and Xavi look at to solve this dilemma of theirs is Nico Williams. Aged 21, the Athletic Club winger is one of La Liga’s most dynamic and exciting young prospects, and Barcelona have plenty of reasons to rely on him as their next big signing after the pivot.

However, while his arrival would spell good things for Barcelona, that is not the universal case for everyone. According to SPORT, the man who would take the biggest hit from such an arrival would be Raphinha. The Brazilian winger, despite not having always been undisputed at Barcelona, could be the name that is shown the exit door in case of Nico’s arrival.

Over the last few weeks, Raphinha has actually improved his performances substantially. The Brazilian winger has provided a strong blend of efficiency and pressure, but Barcelona have still faltered in important matches. For them, the reason for the lack of potency in the attack at times is due to the absence of a more dynamic winger who can work his magic in isolated duels against defenders.

Having Lamine Yamal be as effective as he is on the right wing has shown Barcelona exactly how useful a strong dribbler can be on the wing. Nico Williams, a close friend of Yamal’s, would provide exactly that on the left as well. Consequently, knowing that he will have to resort to a secondary role at best, Raphinha could go as one of the first departures of the summer.

His transfer would not only open up more opportunities for him to play elsewhere, but it would also help Barcelona financially. To return to the 1:1 rule, the Catalan giants need important revenue to come in. Given that he still has many suitors around Europe, that could be a positive deal for both the player and FC Barcelona.
