It appears that FC Barcelona may not have yet encountered all the unexpected surprises they are in for this summer transfer window, as one of the biggest stories of the summer itself could be yet to unveil its true colors.
The Catalan club remains focused on acquiring Manchester City star Bernardo Silva and progressing negotiations for other priority Barcelona targets as well such as Joao Cancelo, who happens to be contracted to Manchester City as well.
However, it seems that a new possibility of an arrival could be on the horizon, this time originating from the Parisian echoes of France. A former Barcelona hero could potentially become a very strong candidate to spearhead the side next season.
According to Spanish journalist Jordi Blanco Duch of ESPN, it appears that 31-year-old Brazilian star Neymar Jr is currently ‘closer’ to joining FC Barcelona than the Catalan club’s other priority summer target, Bernardo Silva.
In recent days, the reports linking Barcelona and their former Brazilian star have grown in both quantity and quality of the journalists reporting them.
Rumored to have offered himself to the Catalan club, Barcelona remain divided within the club’s management as to whether bringing in the Brazilian winger would be a step in the right direction or not.
A proven bona fide hero already within the history books of Catalan mythos, the Brazilian’s past stay at Barcelona began when he arrived from Brazilian side Santos in 2013 and stayed at the Catalan club until the end of the 2016/2017 season.
During his time with La Blaugrana, the South American star won 2 La Liga titles, 3 Copa Del Rays, the 2015 editions of both the UEFA Champions League and the FIFA Club World Cup, as well as the Spanish Supercup in 2013.
For now, Barcelona remain adamant that the current financial demands of both PSG and Neymar would be unfeasible for the club. The only way to overcome this, as per reports suggesting Barca’s demands, the player will have to reduce his salary demands by more than half and PSG will have to agree to either a loan move or a low-cost transfer operation.
