Although there has been a visibly great improvement in the team’s sporting performance over the last season, FC Barcelona are still suffering from injuries as they did last year.
The Catalans missed important players like Gavi, Balde, Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, and Ter Stegen for a significant period of time last season, and this season, they are again without important players like Gavi, Frenkie, Araujo, Christensen, Fati, and Bernal.
Bernal was the latest player to enter this list, as he suffered a torn ACL in the match between Barcelona and Rayo Vallecano. As a result, he is already expected to remain sidelined for the rest of this season.
The youngster will also have to undergo surgery to recover from this issue. As already reported, this surgery was previously scheduled to take place on September 4th. However, as Mundo Deportivo has reported, there is a change of plans regarding this operation at Barcelona, as the latest tests have not been according to their expectations.
The surgery is now expected to take place next week, but day-to-day developments will determine when this procedure takes place.
Dr Joan Carles Monllau, who also undertook surgery on Gavi when he tore his ACL last November, is expected to oversee this medical intervention on Bernal. This procedure will also be supervised by the Barcelona medical team under the direction of Dr Ricard Pruna.
Dr. Monllau is one of the most trusted surgeons for knee-related matters and has already operated on names as big as Alexia Putellas and Phillipe Coutinho, in addition to Gavi. Other notable names to have been treated by him include Martin Braithwaite, Sergio Lozano, and Alex Arbines.
Bernal was having a very good start to the season under Flick, and thus such a serious injury is expected to take a toll on him. Still, everyone will be wishing him the best for this initial stage of the recovery, and Barcelona fans will be particularly hoping for his quick and perfect return to football.
