It is not uncommon for Barcelona talents to catch the eyes of European giants. Several talented youngsters have gone on to try their luck elsewhere if Barça could not afford to give them minutes. The likes of Thiago Alcantara, Ez Abde, Andre Onana, Mauro Icardi, and Adama Traore are just a few such names.

The Catalan giants are a demanding club, and only the very best can survive the taxing expectations. As such, only a select few of the starlets from the academy actually end up becoming regulars for the first team. The likes of Gavi, Alejandro Balde, and Lamine Yamal are some of the most recent revelations.

According to Spanish outlet SPORT, however, a particular Premier League club is after a promising Barça gem. 16-year-old Barcelona Atletic defender Pau Cubarsi remains on the radar of London-based Chelsea. The Blues from London have been previously linked with the young defender as well.

As per the report, their pursuit of the youngster has intensified. Having just recently renewed with FC Barcelona until 2026, even his increased contract duration has not deterred Chelsea. A particular aspect that Chelsea hope to exploit is his rather affordable release clause.

Reportedly set between €10-15 million, the release clause itself is something Chelsea continues to eye. Moreover, beyond just the Premier League side, several European clubs are also enticed. Given Cubarsi’s talent and progression, it seems only natural for so many suitors to pile up.

Physically dominant, technically astute, and positionally smart, the young Barça product has everything to succeed. However, within Barcelona, they remain assured about his future and commitment to the Catalan club.

Despite this, it is believed that it will not be too long before Deco has to get involved. Given the low value of his current release clause, the player can be easily swooped away by interested clubs, rendering his recent renewal to be pointless. A new contract may have to be drafted soon enough as a result.

Cubarsi, along with Mikayil Faye, are regarded as the two most promising subsidiary defenders. Moreover, it is considered that both youngsters are already at a level where they can help out the Barcelona first team. It will be seen when Xavi ends up making that big call, but it is only a matter of ‘when’ and not ‘if’.
