There are only a few days left until the 2023-24 La Liga campaign starts for FC Barcelona, but the Catalan club is yet to finalize the squad that it will go into the next with.

Barcelona have already made significant additions this summer, but one area of weakness that remains to be addressed is the right-back position. Thus, time is short for the Catalans to choose the right-back that they want to bring in for the next season.

The top option for Xavi in this position was the Portuguese Joao Cancelo, but he has been ruled out because of the demands that Manchester City made from Barcelona for the player. With other names like Foyth also quite expensive for Barcelona, Ivan Fresneda remains the best-suited option.

According to SPORT, Fresneda has been waiting for Barcelona to make an approach for him. However, the player has other offers on the table for him as well, and Real Valladolid are also looking for a quick resolution to his transfer in order to ready their squad for the next season.

The Catalans have already made a proposal for Fresneda, which was not accepted, but the Blaugranes are convinced that an offer of €10 million and €5 million in variables can persuade Valladolid to part with the fullback.

However, Blaugranes will have to act quickly with an offer for Fresneda, as Chelsea have also entered the race to sign him. If Chelsea make an offer in the coming days, Fresneda and Valladolid will have a big decision to make on their hands, and they will not necessarily wait for Barcelona to make their offer.

Still, Fresneda prefers moving to Barcelona ahead of any other club, and Deco has also told Fresneda directly that the Catalan club wants to sign him.

However, the Barcelona Sporting Director is also wary of the movements in the market, and is concerned by these developments. Thus, he can persuade the Barcelona hierarchy to make a move for the right-back soon.
