The recent clash against Napoli was supposed to be season-defining for Barcelona. La Blaugrana wanted a victory, but their valiant efforts only took away a draw. While that was not their ideal result, Barcelona may have drawn other positives.
Over the course of this season, it is becoming increasingly more clear that the Catalan giants may need to make some less-than-ideal decisions in the summer. Certain key players, irrespective of their standing, may need to be let go of to generate some much-needed funds.
One of those players could possibly end up being a central defender. Possessing an abundance of talented players in that specific position now, Barcelona have some room to play around and possibly let go of a player or two without it being a completely detrimental decision for them sportingly.
Thus, it may not all be negative news for Barcelona as SPORT reports that Chelsea had sent some of their scouts to keep an eye on the clash between Xavi’s side and Napoli in the Champions League. While they were mainly keeping an eye on a certain Nigerian striker, Jules Kounde is now also on their radar once again.
The French defender was previously linked to the Blues from London in the summer that he arrived to Barcelona. However, La Blaugrana managed to essentially hijack that transfer and take the former Sevilla defender to the Catalan club. Now, however, it seems like Chelsea want to strike back.
With the London-based club from the English Premier League not restricted when it comes to financial prowess, they could come up with an appealing offer for Kounde. Moreover, with Barcelona looking to possibly offload some stars, the French defender may not be the worst of stars to potentially part ways with.
Moreover, with the positional issues regarding Kounde’s preferences, there is potentially more reason to believe he may take a chance at a club where he is allowed to play centrally more often. However, it must be remembered that this is hardly a defining thing for him, as him and Xavi have already collaborated on this several times already.
