Despite not having any position inside the club, Jorge Mendes is one of the most influential people currently at FC Barcelona. This influence stems from the fact that he represents not only a number of Blaugrana players, but is also an agent of other players that the Catalan club wants to bring in this summer.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the super-agent and Barcelona had a meeting recently, in which different subjects were discussed. One of the main topics of discussion was the move for Bernardo Silva. The 28-year-old Portuguese midfielder has two years still remaining in his contract with Manchester City, but the Catalans want to bring him to Camp Nou this summer to further strengthen their midfield.
Mendes disclosed to Barcelona higher-ups in this meeting that the player himself wants to move to Camp Nou. However, both the agent and the Catalan club know that such an operation is highly complicated, especially with the unfriendliness of Manchester City towards Barcelona in recent months and the importance of the player for Pep Guardiola.
However, the player has already won the Champions League with City. With only two years left on his contract, the Manchester club would be in a weaker negotiating position. They will have to lower their valuation of the player from the €80 million that they demanded last summer. The player would also try to come to the Catalan capital if Blaugranes make a serious move for him.
In addition to Silva, a host of other names was also discussed at this meeting. Cancelo was one such name, who is not settled at Manchester City because of his problems with Pep Guardiola. The fullback still has four years on his contract with City, and Barcelona do not prioritize a move for him as much as they want a technical midfielder.
Another important topic discussed in this meeting was that of Alejandro Balde and significant advances were made towards his contract renewal. The agent is in agreement with the salary proposed by Barcelona, and the Catalans want to tie him till 2027, or 2028 if that is possible.
FC Barcelona also reassured the agent, who also represents Lamine Yamal, that the Spaniard will continue at Barcelona with his first professional contract. While the negotiations for this contract are not close to a conclusion, the Catalans are calm, especially with Mendes representing the youngster.
