Amidst the uncertainty surrounding the possible maneuvers linked with FC Barcelona, The future of the dutchman is becoming clearer with each passing day, who could replace Busquets and allow the club to focus on other reinforcements.
Frenkie de Jong has rapidly gained the trust of Xavi Hernández and the Blaigrana manager is confident that the Dutchman is the best choice to replace Sergio Busquets should he decide to leave the team at the end of the season as per the reports from SPORT.
Xavi has already tested De jong out as a pivot this season and the Dutchman did not let him down with his staller performances. This season, De Jong has unquestionably improved, and after a challenging summer during which he came close to leaving the club, he is totally comfortable again.
Although he previously played as a pivot, Xavi has used him as an interior more often this season, and his performance has been excellent. He has put in solid performances offensively and defensively, and it is no wonder why he is being entrusted with such an important responsibility.
To replace Busquets, Xavi and the sports department immediately considered signing Zubimendi from Sociedad, a promising defensive midfielder. However, the FFP regulations, as well as his €60 million release clause, make his arrival impossible.
Xavi now prefers to use De Jong as a solution in this scenario to deal with the potential departure of Sergio Busquets. De Jong enjoyed a phenomenal start to the season, and given his age and prowess, will only improve from here.
De Jong’s absolute non-transferability is still very much in evidence. While numerous teams are attentive to his situation, Barcelona is no longer open to considering offers. In the hope that he will succeed Busquets, he has gone from being for sale to be completely untouchable. This would be the perfect situation for Barcelona, who could then address their other depleted areas of the squad.
