It would seem unwise to believe that FC Barcelona are not currently planning ahead when it comes to sports management. La Blaugrana do not have the assets to go ahead with their business without proper planning, and they should not even if they did. However, with their financial situation, it becomes even more crucial for Barcelona.

This planning involves a wide range of different areas that the club hopes to pay attention towards. From a possible new coach to potential new signings, Barcelona have a lot of ground to cover and tend to as time passes. However, there is also another crucial aspect that has not been forgotten by the team’s management.

Contract renewals are key when it comes to retaining a side’s star players. The closer they reach the end of their ongoing deals, the easier it becomes for other sides to come snatch them away. This is especially true for both the best stars of a team as well as the brightest starlets.

For this reason, it is absolutely pivotal for Barcelona to ensure the continuity of their key players. One such player is Lamine Yamal, who despite his tender age of 16 is now one of the hottest properties in the footballing world.

For this reason, it has now been confirmed by a big name at Barcelona that his contract renewal is already in the works. As conveyed by Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona director Deco has confirmed that Yamal’s contract will be extended as soon as he turns 18, which would be a year before his current contract expires:

“We will extend Lamine Yamal’s contract as soon as he turns 18. We have already made an effort with him last summer, Lamine has three more years on his contract and when he turns 18, we will get the new deal done.”

This comes as massively positive news as Deco’s confirmation means a lot in this situation. Yamal is considered to be one of the great Barcelona prodigies of recent years and many highlight him as a generational talent.

His displays on the field speak for themselves and his talent is now beginning to produce adequate numbers as well. Across several top-flight competitions, Yamal now holds one record or another.

Courtesy of his tender age and his immense abilities, he is the youngest goal scorer across several different tournaments. Moreover, with injuries and suspensions in the team being plenty, the 16-year-old La Masia wonderkid has had even more chances to show off his talents.
