Even though the season is far from over, FC Barcelona continue to plan ahead just in case. The Catalan giants have a lot of financial worries, and are not exactly guaranteed sporting decisions going their way either. However, Barcelona know timely preparation can help them in the long run.
For this reason, the club continues to draw up their plans for the summer transfer window. This includes players that Barcelona would wish to bring in, and also thinks about players who could be on their way out. Very few guarantees exist, but it seems that one more has been added to the shortlist.
According to SPORT, Barcelona have no plans to part ways with Inigo Martinez in the summer. They consider the 32-year-old defender to be a vital piece of the puzzle in this team, and under no circumstances does Barcelona consider his departure ahead of next season.
Instead, the Catalan giants retain their faith in his abilities and consider his continuation to be guaranteed. Providing both experience and quality simultaneously, the Spaniard is the type of player that Barcelona desperately needed in their team.
Whenever he has played this season, Martinez has helped Xavi’s Barcelona look stable. Whether that be through his great technical abilities or relentless defensive contributions, the former Athletic Club player remains an absolute guardian for the team.
While he may not be a guaranteed starter, he still remains an important player. Barcelona next come up against Napoli in the Champions League, and even though his participation as a starter is uncertain, Martinez offers a quality of depth offered by very few others. This will undoubtedly help Barça and Xavi with their rotations up ahead as well.
However, while Xavi is not promised to stay at Barcelona, Martinez will reportedly continue. Those in charge of the sporting section of the club, namely Deco, continue to believe him to be the right figure they need in the dressing room.
While Martinez was a bet from the past, with Mateu Alemany and Xavi being the pioneers of his transfer, Deco was also on board with his arrival.
Moreover, with his contract still intact until 2025, Barcelona do not wish to end their relationship with him. Now considered an untouchable in his own right, his previous outing against Mallorca showed his compatibility with Pau Cubarsi as well. While the youngster will likely lead Barcelona for years to come, it seems that Martinez also still has more to offer.
