It is hardly a surprise to hear that FC Barcelona are playing it safe when it comes to transfers. Given their recent history of being rather neglectful when it comes to their spending, it seems that the club has learned from its mistakes. However, that still does not mean that Barcelona will stop recruiting when it needs to.

Despite rumors suggesting that a player or two could arrive in January, the club ultimately opted against it. Instead, the focus seems to have shifted towards the summer transfer window. However, even then, the club will look to be careful with the way they go about things.

As highlighted by SPORT, there is one position in which Barcelona Director Deco seems to think that the club does not have a natural option, despite having players who can occupy various positions:

“We have players who can play in various positions: Olmo, Raphinha, Fermín… but it’s true that maybe we lack a left winger.”

In recent times, the club has been linked to the likes of Colombian winger Luis Diaz. Currently at Liverpool, he was seen as one of the options that could be brought in to reinforce the team at some point in the future.

However, at the same time, Deco did say that signing a left-winger is not exactly an urgent priority given the performance of other players such as Raphinha, despite it still being something to be considered:

“It’s not an absolute priority because Raphinha is performing perfectly, and Fermín can play there even though it’s not his natural position. If you look at the squad, we might need another player in that spot.”

As for the fullback positions, one where Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde have Gerard Martin and Hector Fort as their direct competition, Deco did not seem to be too concerned:

“We are happy with what we have.”

For now, Hansi Flick’s squad is what it is until the end of the season. Fortunately, the team has been performing quite well this season and they remain in contention to compete for everything. Moreover, with a certain Barcelona defender having recently survived an injury scare, the team’s depth looks solid as well.
