FC Barcelona landed two highly-rated players, Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, in the last summer transfer window. From the very beginnings of their Barcelona careers, the two have become very important players for Xavi Hernandez and are already among the players with the highest numbers of minutes played this season.

Despite their importance to the team, the future of these two players with Barcelona is set to remain uncertain as they are both only on loan at the Catalan club.

Unless the Catalans can make arrangements to keep them beyond this season, it is clear they both will return to their previous clubs, i.e., Manchester City for Cancelo and Atletico Madrid for Felix.

The uncertainty regarding these players was increased even further as Deco avoided giving any specific answer on Barcelona’s activities to incorporate these players for the future.

As SPORT has reported, the Sporting Director gave an interview to A Bola, in which the topic of these players was brought up. Regarding their future, Deco commented:

“We are very happy with the performance of both. They bring a lot of quality to the team. It is too early to talk about their situations, and we will have time to make decisions.”

Deco also hinted that Barcelona has not yet made any noteworthy advances to get them beyond this season:

“Now is the moment when players should be focused on the club’s objectives and try to win as much as possible in all competitions. Anything discussed at this time is just speculation.”

Previously, Deco had commented that Barcelona were counting on the duo for the future, but his latest comments have left a lot of room for speculation about their continuity at the Catalan club after the coming summer.

Still, there is a lot of time left before their loan periods expire. But the Catalans would be better off doing the homework for their continuity with the club now so everything goes smoothly in the latter parts of the season.
