One of the most significant pieces of business conducted by FC Barcelona in the last summer transfer window was the signing of the Brazilian striker Vitor Roque. He is expected to arrive at his new club in the upcoming winter window.
The Brazilian is currently the best talent coming out of the South American country and had been enjoying a sustained run of scoring form for the last few months. However, he unfortunately got injured in a league match for his club, Athletico Paranaense, and will have to miss significant game time to recover from this injury.
Deco planning to meet Roque
According to Mundo Deportivo, the player has the full support of FC Barcelona and their Sporting Director, Deco, who is planning to travel to Brazil during the next league break, starting on 9th October, to meet the young striker in person.
Deco wants to be with the striker to support him in this difficult time and also to check out how his recovery from this injury is going.
He will also get in contact with Roque’s doctors, who have already been in contact with Barcelona’s doctors, and both these teams of doctors agree with the conservative treatment plan for the striker, which would not take him to the operating room.
Furthermore, Deco also aims to explain to Roque the financial situation of the Catalan club and how he will be registered in the coming January. Deco is convinced that Roque will succeed at Barcelona and wants him to be available for Xavi as soon as the second half of this season kicks off.
€40 million from German fund key for Roque operation
Deco has also met Ferran Olive in recent days, the treasurer at Barcelona and most trusted financial executive of Joan Laporta, to get an idea of the financial condition of the club. The key is still the €40 million that Barcelona expects to receive from the German Libero Football Fund, and when the club receives this sum, it will be able to sign Vitor Roque.
Meanwhile, Deco and Barcelona are clear that they do not want to use the salary reductions from Ter Stegen and Frenkie de Jong’s contracts for Vitor Roque’s signing and want to let these two important parts of the squad know that their renewals have been done only with their sporting importance in mind.
