The signing of Vitor Roque is one of the most exciting pieces of business undertaken by FC Barcelona in the current transfer window. While the player has not yet arrived at the Catalan capital, his signing has been completed by the Blaugranes amid tense competition from other top European clubs.
Roque’s agent, Andre Cury, was one of the most influential individuals in this entire operation. He has had an interview with SPORT, in which he has provided the details of this transfer operation.
In a significant part of this interview, the agent talked about the role that Barcelona’s soon-to-be Sporting Director, Deco, played in this operation.
When asked about the importance of the Portuguese, the agent commented, “Deco has been a key player in this operation. I have been talking to him about this player since May 2022, when many people were considering other players of the same age.”
The agent also disclosed that initially, Roque was not Barcelona’s only target, and some people at the club were advocating for other targets.
However, Cury claims that “He [Deco] showed great determination and was very clear that the right player was Vitor Roque. And this stance has proved to be crucial because now, when offers from other top clubs have come in, we have stayed firm and loyal. As they say here in Brazil, Deco is the mastermind behind it all. He has helped us tremendously, and we are thrilled.”
Cury also praised Laporta for his administration of the club in his first stint from 2003-2010. He claimed Laporta is doing well in his second stint too, and picked out his bravery and courage as the primary factors that make him such an effective leader.
Commenting specifically on the transfer, the agent claimed that the player had other, financially superior, proposals on the table as well, which almost doubled the player’s wages and tripled his own commission. However, everyone was convinced that Barcelona would be the only destination for Roque, and Roque himself always desired to play for FC Barcelona.
