After serving the Blaugrana crest for 11 years, Jordi Alba leaves Barcelona at the end of the season, putting an end to an illustrious career at the Catalan capital. After that, his next destination is yet to be known, with several clubs interested, but there are no concrete offers on the table as of now.
According to SPORT, Atlético Madrid are among the possible clubs for the veteran Spaniard, but there is still nothing concrete. It’s true that a huge offer from Saudi Arabia could turn the table but currently, this is not the preferred scenario.
Nonetheless, Alba prioritizes a move closer to home in order to stay close to his family and spend more time with his loved ones. His wife is due to give birth at the end of June and thus, his decision to stay is fully understandable and it doesn’t seem to be the best time to leave.
Moreover, from a sporting perspective, it could perhaps suit his particular skillset to remain in the realms of Spanish football. Having played in La Liga for around a decade by this point in time, Jordi Alba has only grown more and more accustomed to the league and it’s various tactical approaches as well as prior opponents that a-may potentially be future teammates. His style of play has been quite effective in Spain for an extended period of time and there is no guarantee that he would be guaranteed not having to adapt accordingly to any other country’s league and footballing systems.
Also, if he were to be called up for Spain tomorrow, his stock would rise, although it seems highly unlikely to happen. As he will end his contract after the end of the season with Barcelona on a mutual agreement, as a free agent, he will surely have suitors heading into the next campaign, but there is nothing concrete and his future is yet to be decided.
