The ever-evolving nature of Barcelona and their transfer targets continues to be malleable. For La Blaugrana, no target is defined or guaranteed until and unless a final approach is made. As of right now, Barcelona continue to keep their eyes on multiple targets at once.

Their priority is to bring in a pivot in the summer, one who can elevate the level of this team and prove to be the long-term heir to Sergio Busquets. There are certain names that Barcelona likes, but they are also unapproachable due to the finances required to acquire them.

That is exactly where and why a certain Dutchman now comes into the picture. 24-year-old Mats Wieffer has previously also been linked to Barcelona, but it seems that a new development has taken place in recent days.

As per SPORT, the Dutch defensive midfielder is now back on the agenda of Barcelona. However, he is no longer a simple name on a long list of targets, but he is instead now a top priority given the feasibility of acquiring him coupled with his guaranteed quality that provides assurance and reliability.

Playing for Feyenoord at the moment in the Eredivisie, he is also an international for the Dutch National team. Expected to take part in this year’s international tournaments, he is likely going to form a partnership in the midfield with Barcelona star Frenkie De Jong. Their relationship seems to be well-developed, and could be an aspect that excites Barcelona.

Moreover, believing that his acquisition would cost Barça somewhere around €25 million, he is believed to be a cheaper alternative to some of the other options that Barcelona are targeting. Unfortunately for them, they are not the only ones after the signature of Wieffer.

Fellow La Liga side and rivals Atletico Madrid are also reportedly hunting him down. Diego Simeone seems to have developed a liking for the 24-year-old defensive midfielder following their clashes in the group stages of the Champions League, and will look to give Barcelona a hard time in guaranteeing his future.
