FC Barcelona finally manage to conclude their pre-season tour of the United States of America as they finish up their final clash of the series of games with a 1-0 victory over AC Milan in Las Vegas.
Following the game, news broke from the Barcelona camp by both Xavi Hernandez and Sergi Roberto that French winger Ousmane Dembele would indeed be leaving the club as reports have speculated over the last week or so.
A player who had just recently prior to the pre-season assured the club and Xavi in particular that he intended to remain at FC Barcelona and extend his current contract that was set to expire in 2024, the sudden U-turn in his final decision has left many puzzled within the club.
Understandably, this has prompted reporters to ask questions of a similar nature of exit to other key Barcelona players as well, the most recent of which was young star Pedri.
As highlighted by La Vanguardia, the youngster was asked several questions ranging from potential offers to a possible future at Barcelona.
The player was asked regarding the current scope of any possible offers for him, to which the 20-year-old provided assurance that they do not bother him nor is he aware of any, stating:
“I am calm and focused on the tour. I’m not paying attention to what others are saying. I’m only thinking about preparing for the preseason and enjoying time with Barcelona.”
Then asked if he intends to stay to which the player provided a positive reply after which he was questioned about a possible renewal with the club and whether or not he would be present as a Barcelona player in the new Camp Nou, to which he replied:
“I hope so. I think it will be an incredible, fantastic stadium. Personally, I believe it’s a great project, and we should enjoy it. Not only us but also the people who come to watch us.”
Lastly, the player was also directly asked about contacts from PSG, who will soon be signing Ousmane Dembele as it is, and if they were the only side to come looking for the young talent:
“I am not paying attention to the offers that come to me. My representatives handle that. I tell them that if they want to listen, they can do it. They will let me know, but I’m focused on my own thing, which is training, playing, and enjoying.”
“However, many things would have to happen for me to leave this club. I would have to be very unhappy and discontented. I see it as highly unlikely; Barcelona is my dream club, and I want to stay here for many more years.”
Pedri’s loyalty to Barcelona remains untested and with his desire to one day be a captain of the club, it can be safe to assume that the future of the club being entrusted with the youngster and the dependence on him is in trusted hands.
