For the last few weeks, FC Barcelona have been making a lot of progress in the pursuit of one of their medium-term objectives, the renewal of important players whose contracts are ending in the coming two years.

In this regard, the Catalans made a significant advance as they renewed the Uruguayan defender, Ronald Araujo, thus extending his stay at the Blaugrana club from 2026 to 2031. Similarly, the young defender Gerard Martin was also renewed till 2028.

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are on the verge of completing another highly important renewal operation, as Pedri is expected to sign his new contract today on Thursday, once today’s training session concludes.

As was the case with Araujo, Pedri will also sign the new contract in the presence of the club President Joan Laporta. With this new contract, the €100m-rated Canarian will extend his stay at the Catalan club till 2030, while his current contract was set to end in 2026.

Pedri, who has been one of the key players for Hansi Flick since the start of the season, was quite clear about his intentions to continue with the Blaugrana club. Thus, this was one of the easier renewal operations for Deco and his Sporting Department.

Once this renewal agreement has been signed, another midfielder is likely to be the next in line to sign his new contract, i.e. Gavi. The La Masia graduate’s current contract is also valid till 2026, but his new contract will keep him tied to the club till 2030, and thus the timeframe of his contract will match that of Pedri’s.

There is no doubt that this will be a significant achievement for the club, even though both parties had been clear about their intentions of continuing to work together. Barcelona will now have ensured the continuity of one of the brightest stars in their team, and hopefully, Gavi will also follow suit soon.
