FC Barcelona has possessed many different generational talents in their squad over the course of their storied history. Across various eras, the Catalan giants have produced magical displays or their players have made children fall in love with both football and Barcelona.
Some of those children are now professional footballers and hold that same admiration for Barcelona that they held back then. Even fewer actually manage to complete their euphoric dream of wishing to join Barcelona at one point in their respective careers.
According to Spanish outlet SPORT, a particular child that used to be a fan of FC Barcelona and Samuel Eto’o in particular is now a world-class striker in Italy. The player in question is none other than 24-year-old Napoli ace Victor Osimhen.
Moreover, the player has even publicly admitted his admiration and positive opinion on FC Barcelona by stating it to still be his ‘favorite’ team: “When I was young, my favorite team was Barcelona because of Samuel Eto’o. And it still is my favorite team.”
This news comes at a time when things between Napoli and Osimhen are not exactly at their best. Primarily, there were disagreements with the new manager, Rudi Garcia, over the substitution of the Nigerian striker in a game that seemed to still be perfectly poised for him to contribute towards at 0-0.
Secondly, a scenario that has now gone viral on social media, the player and his agent have not taken well to the ‘insulting’ TikToks that the Napoli account has posted. These videos seem to be demeaning the Nigerian striker and showcasing his penalty miss with a comedic sound in the background or simply making fun of his hairstyle in another.
With the player’s agent threatening to take legal action, the player’s words showcasing his admiration for Barcelona could not have come out at a better time.
Given the Catalan’s financial limitations, it may be difficult to directly pursue the Nigerian striker’s signature, but it remains true that if Barcelona now pursued him there may be positive responses from Osimhen’s camp.
The 24-year-old has a contract that is valid until 2025 with Napoli, and renewal talks seem to be on hold for now given the rather tense relationship between both parties.
For Napoli, Osimhen remains undisputed given his 30-goal contributions in Serie A last season that allowed the team from Naples to win the Scudetto after 33 years, with the last one having been won by them while Diego Maradona was still there.
