Over the last several years, FC Barcelona has had to get through some challenging hurdles. Due to their ever-frustrating financial restrictions and limitations, the Catalan giants have had to suffer at times. However, if there was one constant, it was that Barcelona could rely on their youngsters.
Every other season, a new revelation from the subsidiary or the academy enabled the club to hope again. Whether it was the entry of Ansu Fati into the first team, the incorporation of Alejandro Balde, or even Gavi once Ronald Koeman gave him the opportunity to shine, they all made sure to help revive the team.
However, perhaps no young player has had the same kind of impact on this Barcelona team as Lamine Yamal. The 17-year-old La Masia prodigy, a bonafide record-breaker with both his country and his club, has made the first team his own as he has already become the star player in it.
Yet, it is only natural that a player of his caliber and quality becomes a big attraction for other major clubs. Moreover, while Barcelona may be building towards a much stronger project, they are not necessarily the favorites to win everything at the moment.
Furthermore, the existence of other clubs that could provide an immediate upgrade in terms of both sporting opportunities and financial benefits continues to remain a problem in case any of those sides manage to intervene hoping to take away the young prodigy.
Fortunately for Barcelona, that is a problem that they will not have to worry about too much it seems. That is because Lamine Yamal’s own objective remains to continue at Barcelona and this has come out of his own mouth rather than from any secondary source.
In a recent interview with ‘El Hormiguero’, as highlighted by the ever-reliable Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Yamal made it clear that his future lies with the Catalan giants: “I never want to leave Barça. I want to become a legend of this club.”
This will come as great news to Barcelona, who would be more than relieved knowing that their €120m-rated young prodigy aspires to make his name at the club and continue with them for many years to come. Ultimately, it is already a fairytale in the making if things go right.
Already considered as a crucial player at the club, he continues to be hailed by players and coaches alike. For reasons beyond just his extraterrestrial abilities on the pitch, retaining Lamine Yamal at Barcelona is a priority that perhaps exceeds all others if the occasion arises to make a choice.
