Barcelona are a club in financial turmoil at the moment suffering due to bad decisions from the past. For a club in such a situation, making the most of market opportunities is a must and the club has done this well with respect to free agents in recent seasons.
However, market opportunities just doesn’t pertain to free agents but also to players available way below their current transfer value. One such player on Barcelona’s horizon at the moment is Juventus winger Federico Chiesa.
The Italian international’s current value according to Transfermarkt is around €35m. However, Juventus are willing to sell him for just €15m this summer with his contract set to expire at the end of next season.
As per SPORT, Juventus offered Chiesa a new contract in line with the kind of contract Barcelona offered to Frenkie de Jong and Clement Lenglet – a salary reduction and a deferral that could be added to the subsequent years of his deal. The Italian rejected the deal as he didn’t want to take lesser money than he already was.
With Thiago Motta then making it clear that Chiesa was not part of his plans, Juventus have to make sure they sell him this summer to avoid losing him for free next summer. Thus, they have offered him out for a bargain price.
This allows Barcelona to pick up a world-class player (when fit) who was once touted for greatness entering the prime years of his career for a fee that is cents on a dollar. This is a no-brainer for the Catalan club.
Chiesa to Barcelona is heating up with every passing day and this is a transfer that makes a lot of sense. Let’s see how this saga plays out in the coming days and if the Italian can be in Hansi Flick’s squad for next season.
