FC Barcelona have brought in a number of players in the last few years who have fared with varying degrees of success at the club.

Some very highly expensive players like Antoine Griezmann and Philippe Coutinho were unable to pay back the high amounts paid for them, while others, like Pedri and Araujo, have performed extremely well despite the low amounts paid for them.

One such player who came to the Catalan giants for free, but has contributed significantly to the club’s successes ever since his arrival is the Danish defender, Andreas Christensen.

The Dane came to Barcelona after fulfilling his contract at Chelsea, and despite his low profile, has contributed immensely to making the Barcelona defense one of the best in Europe.

Christensen facing physical problems

Christensen has kept his position as a starter in Xavi’s team this season, but he has not started the season in the best of his physical shape. He has played in all three competitive games up to now, but a muscular discomfort has kept him from completing any of these matches.

Against Getafe and Villarreal, he was replaced at half-time, while he played 79 minutes against Cadiz. Xavi explained why Christensen was been unable to complete the match against Villarreal in the following words:

“Christensen ‘s change was due to discomfort, he didn’t feel comfortable and that’s why Eric came on for him.”

Denmark call up Christensen for Euro qualifiers

Thus, the upcoming international break could have been a good period for the Dane to recover from these muscular issues. However, as Mundo Deportivo reports, Denmark have called up Andreas Christensen for their upcoming Euro qualifiers against San Marino and Finland.

As Christensen would be representing his national side in these international matches, he would not only lose a good window to recover his fitness but would also be facing extra stress that can end up further worsening his situation. Hopefully, Denmark would take a more realistic view of the defender’s situation and allow him to recover before using him in these matches.
