The season has well and truly kicked off for FC Barcelona and most other teams in Europe. Just as they do every season, La Blaugrana hope to have high aspirations this time around as well. However, it also seems to mean that the misfortunes of Barcelona carry on as well.
Injuries were a deciding factor in the outcome of Barça’s previous season, and it was something that the club had hoped to overcome for this ongoing campaign. Especially with the appointment of Hansi Flick, the Catalan giants believed that they finally had a good hold on the physical progression of their players.
Unfortunately, it appears that another worrying injury has just been unearthed within the Barcelona squad. According to the information provided by journalist Gerard Romero, 28-year-old Danish defender Andreas Christensen is set to be sidelined for a duration that may extend close to two months.
As per his own words, the hope is that the player will end up recovering within the time frame of two months and the Dane himself hopes to recover within a singular month and be back in action for the club. However, given that the player’s injury is likely connected to his recurring Achilles tendon issue, it would not hurt to be cautious.
He ended up missing the latest training session for the club and will now be missing the upcoming game against Athletic Club. A strong player who offers versatility to Hansi Flick, his loss will certainly be a tough one to overcome despite the fact that he is not really a starter.
However, this also means that reports suggesting that he will not be leaving the club this summer manage to come true. Despite links to Newcastle United and a potential Premier League return, Christensen remains happy at Barcelona but this injury is definitely an unwanted development.
Other reports have suggested that the player could be out for two months, but Romero believes that the player’s recovery will take less time than that. Only time itself will eventually tell which estimation is correct, but what is known for sure is that Christensen will miss a handful of the upcoming games.
