It seems that the pursuit of a new addition will not be easy at all for Barcelona. The Catalan giants are now forced into an uneasy position with their latest targets becoming increasingly more expensive. However, the targets for Barcelona are not all intended for January either.
For now, the main focus remains on incorporating an additional midfielder into the team. The options in the winter transfer window are far fewer than the ones that would become accessible in the summer. For this reason, an eye has still been kept out for the summer of 2024.
One name that Barcelona has been following for some time now is that of Amadou Onana. A midfielder for Everton in the English Premier League, Onana is a skilled holding midfielder with a lot of different qualities. He has already impressed with the Merseyside club since his arrival last summer.
However, as per the update from Adrian Sanchez, his acquisition will not be comfortable. According to the latest information provided, his current employers would want nothing short of €70 million for his transfer.
This would imply that Everton are looking to make a €40 million profit over what they initially signed him for. Moreover, beyond just the extreme price, there is also Barça’s financial predicament to consider. At the moment, it would be practically impossible for them to match those demands.
Currently valued at €50 million by Transfermarkt, the Senegalese defender is undoubtedly a solid player. His passing range, control over the midfield, and ball recoveries are some of his most prominent attributes. The defensive aspect of his game, in particular, is something Barça really seems to admire. For now, his signing seems to feel almost impossible. However, by the time summer comes around, the Catalans may have more options.
