For FC Barcelona to achieve their objectives this season, a lot of things will need to happen just perfectly. The Catalan club, especially with their economic limitations, cannot afford any more untimely injuries. Already a depleted squad, Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have a long and quite challenging road up ahead.

Moreover, with the loss of 17-year-old midfield sensation Marc Bernal to injury, Barcelona have been dealt an even worse hand than they were having to deal with before. Bernal’s injury is now only the latest addition to a long list of sidelined players at Barça that includes the likes of Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Gavi, and other key players.

To deal with that loss, however, Hansi Flick remained confident that he could count on some of his other midfielders to cover for Bernal this season. One of them was Frenkie de Jong, the 27-year-old Dutch midfielder who remains a captain of the team and one of their most prominent midfielders.

Despite being currently injured, recent reports claimed that the €70 million-rated star may be close to returning after the international break and no surgical intervention was needed for the Dutchman to return. However, as per the latest update provided by journalist Achraf Ben Ayad, De Jong’s return may be a bit more complicated.

As per his information, the journalist claims that the risk of a potential surgery being needed is still there. While there is indeed hope that the player may return after the international break to help Hansi Flick’s Barcelona, there is still a chance that things do not end up going perfectly and the player has to ultimately consider the option of a surgical intervention.

For now, De Jong continues to reject the possibility of a potential surgery and he prefers a more conservative recovery method. However, he may not have a choice if he still ends up facing physical problems after making his return. Ultimately, only time will tell just how his injury develops in the upcoming weeks.
