Despite being one of the most important defenders in the team, the future of Ronald Araujo at FC Barcelona remains highly uncertain. Several episodes involving the Uruguayan defender in the last few months show how precarious his future is at the Catalan club.

In the last winter transfer window, the center-back received highly alluring offers from Bayern Munich, which made a lot of headlines at the time, but ultimately, the defender decided to stay at Barcelona.

However, since that time, there have been constant news linking him with a move away from the Catalan club. Around a month ago, he was one of the players who was reportedly on the list of players deemed transferable by the club.

This list was leaked by someone in the club to all the players named in it, including Araujo, and Xavi had to make some explanations in the dressing room in this regard.

In fact, Xavi’s staff ensured Araujo they had flatly refused his departure, but this event left a bad taste in the defender’s mouth, and he was one of the players who expressed the greatest anger and disappointment with this state of affairs.

This episode also allowed the defender’s agent to delay their meeting with the club for his renewal, and according to Diario AS, Barcelona executives believe that this delay is actually being caused by an important offer that the player has on the table.

With the arrival of Hansi Flick, it was believed that the Uruguayan would have an important position in the squad, and the defender was expected to order his agents to make a move regarding the renewal.

However, there has been no such activity, making the Catalan club’s officials anxious about the situation. For now, Barcelona are clear that if the defender’s agents do not agree on the new contract offered, they can sell Araujo as long as they get an offer of at least €80 million.

As things stand, Araujo has the ball in his court, and a more certain idea of the situation can only be obtained after his agents meet the club executives.

FC Barcelona want to retain the defender, but not at any price, and will be open to a transfer if the Uruguayan demands a very high figure with the excuse of having other offers on the table.
