The idea of bringing in a new pivot is almost unanimous within the offices of FC Barcelona. Both the sporting and technical departments agree on it, and it is a universal demand. Since the departure of Sergio Busquets, Barcelona have longed for an adequate successor.
Now, heading into the summer transfer window, they have a real opportunity to make that dream a reality. Previously, Barcelona had to resort to using low-cost alternatives or players had to be used out of position to cover for the lack of a proper pivot in the team.
Now, however, they have many options worth looking at on the table. The names of Joshua Kimmich, Martin Zubimendi, and others are linked heavily to the club, but they would undoubtedly be expensive signings to bring into the team, and with their unquestionably vulnerable economic status, it becomes an even more difficult hurdle to overcome.
That is where the name of Valencia midfielder Javi Guerra comes into the picture, according to SPORT. Barcelona director Deco really seems to like him, and he has done extensive research on the player while keeping tabs on him to be assured of the fact that he is after the right player and profile for Barcelona.
Moreover, while Guerra has a release clause of €100 million currently active, Valencia would reportedly be open to negotiating a better deal for him that could lead to Barcelona being able to afford him. As per the wordings of SPORT, he would cost around €30 million or less should Barça be able to negotiate properly with his current team.
On the other hand, 30% of whatever Barcelona hypothetically ends up paying Valencia will go to Villarreal who had those terms agreed when they sold the currently 21-year-old midfielder in 2019. Keeping that in mind, Valencia may be a bit tough to negotiate with should Barcelona hope to bring the price down too drastically.
On the topic of the player’s profile itself, however, the midfielder is regarded as a versatile and capable individual. Able to play across any position within the midfield, this level of adaptability is something that is valued a lot at Barcelona, and he could be the right fit for them.
