Despite the departure of Dembele, Fati, and Abde from FC Barcelona this summer, the Catalans still have a wealth of attacking talent available in their squad. Lewandowski is there to lead the attacking line, while Raphinha, Yamal, Felix, and Torres are fighting for a starting spot to accompany the Pole.
Despite this variety of attackers present in the squad, the Catalan club is still looking for any opportunity to bolster its attacking line further.
Barcelona interested in Nico Williams
In this regard, it was reported here earlier that Barcelona have the young Atheltic Bilbao winger, Nico Williams in their sights. The youngster has broken out in the Basque club in the last few seasons and is now considered to be one of the most promising stars playing in La Liga.
Nico Williams was accompanying some Barcelona stars as they assembled to represent Spain in the last international break. Within the Spanish camp, the Athletic Bilbao forward was seen to be particularly close to Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal.
Furthermore, Nico’s contract at Athletic Club is going to expire next summer, and all these aspects make him a very attractive target for the Catalans.
Valverde wants Nico to stay
However, as SPORT reports, it would be very difficult for Barcelona to bring him to the Catalan capital as a free agent next year. The Former Barcelona coach and the current Athletic Bilbao manager, Ernesto Valverde, was also asked about Nico’s links with Barcelona recently, on which he commented:
“We all know that in many cases, it’s fictitious; a story is built around a player, then another…”
“We hope he [ Nico ] will be with us for a long time.”
However, nothing is certain for now, as the player is yet to sign an extension with the Basque Lions. He will be free to negotiate with other clubs from 1st January, and it remains to be seen how his future will pan out this season.
