Despite facing some problems in La Liga, FC Barcelona continued on their winning run in the UEFA Champions League as they got a 3-0 victory over the French side Brest in their last night’s match.
Several Blaugrana players stood out in this game, with Pedri putting in a very impressive shift, and Robert Lewandowski reaching a personal milestone after scoring his 100th goal in the premier European competition.
However, the MVP for this game was the young defender Pau Cubarsi, who put in another noteworthy performance at the highest level. But, as SPORT has reported, this MVP award was a pleasant surprise for the youngster as he admitted in a media talk after the end of the match:
“I didn’t expect the MVP because we all played an amazing game today, and it could have gone to anyone. Pedri and Robert [Lewandowski] also had an outstanding match.”
Although it ended up well, Cubarsi highlighted this was not an easy match for his team following the team’s unfavorable results in the last two league games:
“Today was a tough match because we were coming off a rough stretch, and we’re very happy with the result. We gave it our all, 100%, and we need to keep it up because every game is different, and we have to keep working hard.”
The young defender also lent his support to one of his teammates Gerard Martin who also had a decent performance against Brest after having faced some criticism for his performance against Celta Vigo:
“People always try to criticize when you have a bad game, but everyone has bad games. We need to stand by him and support him because he’s a great player, and today he proved it.”
Cubarsi also highlighted one of his personal attributes in this media talk: “I rarely get nervous. I’m a calm guy both on and off the pitch.”
Cubarsi has already displayed this calmness several times while facing some of the most threatening forwards in Europe. This makes him a very special defender and there is no doubt that Barcelona are lucky to have such a promising and competent defender playing for them.
