As Xavi Hernandez has already announced his departure from FC Barcelona at the end of this season, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the head coach position at the Catalan club.

Since Xavi’s announcement, several candidates have been linked with Barcelona as his possible replacement, but the current coach’s continuity at the club can also not be fully ruled out.

In fact, recent news coming out of the club indicated that President Joan Laporta is particularly trying to retain Xavi at the club, especially keeping in view the positive turn that the team has taken in the last few weeks.

As SPORT has noted, the President once again left the topic of Xavi’s continuity at the club open to speculation as he talked to the media at the 71st Conde de Godó Tennis Trophy. Regarding Xavi’s continuity, Laporta commented:

“We’ll address it at the end of the season. Xavi is doing very well. He expressed himself in the way he did. I understand that everything is open and everything is subject to review. There have been circumstances that led him to do what he did, but we’ll talk about it at the end of the season. There’s time to discuss it.”

Overall, the Barcelona President sounded quite happy with Xavi’s performance as the team’s head coach: “That last year made us so happy by winning a historic League… Besides the talent he has, he always gives his all. If things go our way, we’ll be in the Champions League semifinals.”

Laporta also had a message for Barcelona fans, whom he asked to fully support Xavi as his team takes on PSG in the upcoming crucial match:

“We have to go cheer them on. These players deserve everything. We believe in them. We have all the confidence in them, and they are on their way to making history. The players know it, they are aware, and they are very focused. They deserve it.

They know they have to give their all, but we, the Barça fans, must help them. We played a great game in Paris. I would like the stadium to be a big pressure cooker to reach the semifinals.”

There is no doubt that the fans’ support will be a significant advantage for the Blaugranes in this game. Hopefully, Culers will put all their weight behind the team and push them to obtain a historic result in the premier European competition.
