If there is anything to look forward to with FC Barcelona, it is the return of their injured players. Just as they have struggled in previous seasons, La Blaugrana remain plagued with injury issues this season as well. Even without them, however, Barcelona have looked almost too good to be true at times.
Much of the credit for that must go to Hansi Flick, whose tactical revolution at the club has had a huge impact. From his offside traps to his more subtle changes, the German coach has truly helped in transforming this Barcelona team into a much more dangerous version of itself.
However, if there is one player whose expected return is highly anticipated, that would be Gavi. The 20-year-old Barcelona star, formerly a Golden Boy winner as well, is currently in recovery and is actively taking part in Barça’s training sessions with high intensity and participation.
Now, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano in his Youtube video, Gavi has been ‘flying’ in training so far and his return to the pitch is expected quite soon moving forward:
“He’s almost back, just a matter of a short time, and then Gavi will be available on the pitch, ready to play. The Barcelona staff wanted to be super careful after the serious injury he suffered one year ago, but now he’s almost ready. He’s flying in training, and Barcelona are really happy with his attitude.”
The injury in question refers to his ACL injury that took place in November of last year while on international duty with Spain. Since then, the young Spanish midfielder has been sidelined and it has taken a long time for him to fully recover.
Romano went on to compare Gavi to a machine, and says that he is almost ready and that Barcelona themselves are quite happy with the progress that they are seeing:
“It’s not just a technical point—he’s a young, super talented player—so Barcelona never had any doubts about Gavi returning in the best shape possible. But after these kinds of injuries, sometimes your mentality can be affected.”
“He had a difficult moment, feeling sad, but then he started to recover in a fantastic way, like a machine. So, Gavi is almost ready, and Barcelona are very happy with that.”
As of right now, there are reports suggesting that Gavi could even end up making his return against Sevilla right after the international break. While he would likely not start right away, the plan will likely be to give the young La Masia graduate a chance to gradually find his rhythm again by giving him a few minutes at first.
