It seems that the transfer window is still not over for FC Barcelona despite the progress they have made. The Catalan giants have thus far taken a few steps in the direction that they wanted to be in quite some time ago. However, irrespective of their own progress, Barcelona remain convinced that there is more to come.
Previously, it was reported that the entire saga involving Nico Williams still has more to come. Moreover, with Barcelona president Joan Laporta now leading negotiations in order to ensure the arrival of the 22-year-old Athletic Club star, things are beginning to look a lot more serious.
According to Fabrizio Romano as well now, the saga is still not officially over by any means. For the reliable Italian journalist, there is only one scenario in which the transfer saga involving the Spanish winger will truly conclude:
‘We also know Barcelona wanted Nico Williams, so is this saga over yet? It will officially be over when Williams will officially announce his decision. For sure he’s now back at Athletic in a fantastic mood, while Athletic remain relaxed and convinced that he’s going to end up staying. But it’s also the case that Barcelona are still attentive to the situation and keep calling Williams’ agent on daily basis.’
This will come as great news for Barcelona, who have no intentions of giving up on acquiring the Spanish player. Already one of Europe’s most talked about prospects due to his explosion during the European Championship, there would be a lot of sporting and marketing benefits to Barça if they bring him in.
As it stands however, the future of Nico Williams is still very much up in the air. The player has returned to training back at Athletic Club, and for many this signalled the end of Barça’s pursuit for him. However, recent updates would beg to differ, especially now that Fabrizio Romano has also chimed in.
