There has been a lot of speculation regarding the final days of the summer transfer window for FC Barcelona. While the Catalan giants have not had a very happening window in terms of arrivals, they have been fairly involved with departures. However, now more than ever, Barcelona needed to bring in some new faces.
The main reason behind that would be the recent injury to Marc Bernal, one that could potentially keep him out for the remainder of this ongoing season. Without a proper defensive midfielder who they can count on immediately, the club began to be linked to a potential alternative in the market.
Most recently, Barça were linked to a potential loan move for Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic. A talented 19-year-old youngster, the Spaniard seemed to fit all the checkboxes for Barcelona and it felt like he would be the ideal candidate for the La Liga side to pursue.
However, despite the confirmation from Fabrizio Romano that an official bid had been sent, it appears that the deal may just end up collapsing. As per the reliable Italian journalist, Barcelona will unfortunately be unable to go through with the loan deal as of right now due to issues with Financial Fairplay.
Unless something drastic happens to change this scenario, Romano says that the young Spaniard is expected to join RB Salzburg. The Austrian team has been in contact with the player’s entourage and Liverpool since quite some time, and Barça’s attempted hijack may not work out this time.
As it stands, Salzburg expect the player to travel to them on Thursday and Barcelona essentially have little to no time to make a proper difference. If this news turns out to be true, it would
mean that the Catalan club has lost out on yet another promising target this summer.
