FC Barcelona have officially been crowned as the La Liga Santander champions for the 2022/2023 Spanish First Division season. The Catalans have managed to mathematically become champions of Spain following a dismantling of Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.

Xavi’s team has emerged as victors in an enthralling 4-2 game that saw a Lewandowski brace and one goal each from both fullbacks, Jules Kounde and Alejandro Balde. This new-look FC Barcelona side manage to conquer Spain in what has been a formidable 2022/2023 season for them from start to finish.

This becomes the first La Liga title for FC Barcelona since the 2018/2019 season, consequently marking it as the first League title that the Catalans have managed to win since the departure of Argentine legend and Barcelona hero Lionel Messi, who captained the side to their last league title in 2019.

Historically, this title becomes the 27th La Liga title in Barcelona’s long story. A momentous achievement, it is also Sergio Busquets’ final title in the Blaugrana colors, as he is set to depart with the club of his life in the summer. His 8th La Liga title, winning the trophy puts a fitting closure to his FC Barcelona chapter.

Moreover, this is also Xavi Hernandez’s first league title as manager of FC Barcelona. The coach has managed to overcome Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid in his first full season as manager, winning the league over Los Blancos who sit in second place at the time of writing this article.

The actual trophy is set to be presented to FC Barcelona on the 20th of May at the Spotify Camp Nou when the Catalans face off against Real Sociedad in Matchday 35 of La Liga Santander. The Barcelona faithful will have to wait just a little while longer until they can inevitably experience their players lift the coveted La Liga trophy itself.
