While FC Barcelona have already made some additions to their squad for the upcoming season, the Catalan club is expected to add a midfielder to their squad to replace Sergio Busquets.
The player who will play this role is Oriol Romeu, and negotiations between the involved parties for his transfer are close to a conclusion.
Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are quite confident that Romeu will be a Barcelona player once again, especially since the last meeting between Barcelona and Girona two days ago.
This is also apparent from the fact that Xavi has already reserved a place for the midfielder in the set of players that will be going to the USA for the pre-season tour.
Things are so close to a conclusion that the Blaugranes can announce the signing of the player in the coming few hours. The major obstacles to his arrival have already been surpassed, and now only the bureaucratic and documentary hurdles remain to be cleared.
Barcelona are preoccupied with the presentation of Gundogan, which is scheduled for today, and the report indicates that Romeu will have his medicals with the club tomorrow on Wednesday. The player would go on to train with the Barcelona team after passing his medical.
There is already an agreement on the economic aspects of the move between Barcelona, Girona, and Romeu, and Barcelona will pay around €4.5 million for the midfielder. Meanwhile, Girona are also working to get two of Barcelona’s midfielders to replace Romeu, including Nico and Pablo Torre, both on loan.
Oriol Romeu himself has also been in agreement with Barcelona for some time now, and would rejoin the Catalan club for two seasons, while also having the option of another additional season.
While Romeu is not the most prolific of the names associated with the club for the pivot role, Xavi and the Camp Nou faithful will be hoping he can bring more defensive stability to the team for the season ahead.
