FC Barcelona are still looking to strengthen their right-back position, as there is currently no competent right-back present in the team. Sergino Dest has returned from an unconvincing loan and is looking to impress Xavi in the pre-season tour, but his future remains uncertain.
As a result, there is a high probability that the Catalans will bring a new right-back into the club this summer. They have strongly been linked with Joao Cancelo in the last few weeks, but his high loan fee makes an approach for him difficult for the Blaugranes.
Another player that FC Barcelona are targeting in this position is the Real Valladolid player Ivan Fresneda. However, Barcelona are not the only club interested in the youngster who had a successful first season in La Liga last term and will be looking to build upon this good form.
According to SPORT, Valladolid are not in any hurry to sell the player and would rather wait for his competition to increase before letting him leave. However, the Real Valladolid Sports Director, Fran Sanchez, recently spoke at a press conference, where he acknowledged that:
“Some proposal has come for Fresneda, not in writing, but verbally, about what they can pay, but we have not responded yet.”
He further updated about the right-back and commented that Fresneda is:
“going to join us on Wednesday, and he’s one of our players. If an offer comes in that we consider sufficient, he might leave, but as of today, there’s nothing immediate. We set the player’s value.”
With Joao Cancelo looking to be extremely difficult, Fresneda is the main target for FC Barcelona for its right-back position. However, the Spaniard is not going to come cheap either, as Bournemouth have already offered €17 million for the player’s services.
