FC Barcelona is a club that has always been associated with the world’s best players. Irrespective of whether those players are signed from outside or developed within the club, La Blaugrana have always maintained a certain prestige in that regard. Even now, Barcelona continues to call itself home to some of the world’s best players.

However, if there is one thing that the club has lacked in recent years, it is a statement signing that can only be made by clubs that possess an embarrassment of riches. While other teams continue to sign the world-beaters of today, Barcelona have had to slowly work their way towards financial stability again.

Yet, if Joan Laporta wants to continue having huge aspirations for the club and his presidency at Barcelona, a big signing would not hurt his chances of tending to both. However, a signing that he has reportedly been eyeing is that of €200 million-rated Manchester City star Erling Haaland.

Now, as highlighted by SPORT, financial expert and Barcelona presidential candidate Marc Ciria has also weighed in his opinion, and it is one that believes that the signing of Erling Haaland is a possible one but only if certain conditions are met and if the club ‘does things right’:

“Barça is a revenue-generating club, but it needs to make a qualitative leap from earning 800 to 1200 million euros… (Barcelona) needs top-level professionals to outline a strategic plan in every area. If we do things well, we could fix the situation and sign Haaland.”

So far, Haaland seems to be well-settled over in the English Premier League and his performances are there to prove it. Alongside Robert Lewandowski, he remains one of Europe’s most lethal goal scorers and there is a reason why clubs like Barcelona continue to keep an eye on him.

However, with Pep Guardiola’s future at Manchester City not exactly being set in stone, the future of the Norwegian striker is not fully decided just yet either. At some point, the history and pedigree of a team like Barcelona could lead to something special, but that is still a possibility that seems to be quite some time away.

For Laporta, a signing like Haaland could be game-changing but there is still no guarantee if he even ends up arriving. At the moment, the financial situation of the club is not stable enough to even consider signing the Norwegian right away, but possibilities for the future remain endless.
