Barcelona and other European clubs have come to adopt various tactics in order to generate additional income. There are many more ways than one to do so, and one such avenue is the inclusion of sell-on clauses in deals with interested clubs who a player is sold to.
Sell-on clauses are essentially percentages or values attached in an agreement with another club, that in time come into application when that latter club decides to sell that specific player to a third entity.
For Barcelona, there are currently five such players who they have similar sell-on clauses attached to and could look to generate funds from should they be sold this summer as per Mundo Deportivo.
- Jean-Claire Todibo
The French defender is currently plying his trade for French side OGC Nice in Ligue 1, and courtesy of his strong performances there has attracted major European interest which includes the likes of English giants Manchester United, Italian giants Juventus, and other elite clubs from the continent.
Barcelona have a 20% sell-on clause that could potentially earn them a significant figure were he to be sold.
- Philippe Coutinho
The Brazilian was once the crown jewel of Liverpool, but has since had a disappointing time at Barcelona following his transfer to Spain. Now at Aston Villa on a permanent deal, he could soon be on his way to another side following the appointment of Unai Emery, under whom he has not had much prominence.
FC Barcelona maintain a 50% sell-on clause in case of a departure.
- Malcom Oliveira
Barcelona included a 7.5% sell-on clause on Brazilian winger Malcom when they sold off the player to Russian side Zenit for €40 million. Now, interested clubs such as the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United look to pursue his signing, something that would benefit FC Barcelona should it happen.
- Ferran Jutgla
Once a Barcelona rising star who began to turn heads across Europe, he has since left for Belgian side Club Brugge to have guaranteed game time and prominence while simultaneously playing in the UEFA Champions League, where he has shown his quality.
Lazio previously showed interest in his signing and now so does SL Benfica. Barcelona have a 10% sell-on clause for the striker agreed with Club Brugge.
- Ilaix Moriba
A La Masia talent who impressed during his early days in the subsidiary and then would go on to feature for the first team as well, the player has since been offloaded to German side RB Leipzig, who then went on to loan him to Spanish side Valencia.
There exists a 10% sell-on clause agreed for the player between Barcelona and the Bundesliga side, and it reportedly appears the latter may soon look to offload the player as well.
