Five unregistered players not travelling with Barcelona for Getafe clash

FC Barcelona kick off their La Liga campaign today with the match against Getafe, but the club still needs work to do to finalize the squad for the 2023-24 season.

The Catalans have made significant progress in this direction, as they have registered most of their new contracts, but some of the contracts still remain to be registered with La Liga.

As Mundo Deportivo has reported, FC Barcelona announced their squad for the Getafe match somewhat later than usual as they wanted to have some room to include the newly registered players in this squad.

Xavi will be taking twenty-one players for this match, including Araujo and Christensen, who have recovered from their injuries.

However, there are some players whose contracts have not been registered yet, and thus these players are not a part of this squad for the Getafe game.

These include Inigo Martinez, Marcos Alonso, Inaki Pena, Sergino Dest, and Clement Lenglet, but the case of all these players is different.

Marcos Alonso and Inaki Pena are wanted by Xavi in the squad but have not yet been registered because the funds obtained from the sales of Franck Kessie and Ousmane Dembele have been used to register other players deemed more important for the match against Getafe.

On the other hand, Xavi does not count upon Sergino Dest and Clement Lenglet for this upcoming season, and thus they will also remain in Barcelona, as their contracts remain unregistered.

Lenglet did not play a single minute in the pre-season, and while Dest had some minutes, he was unable to impress Xavi or the fans during these cameos.

Lastly, Inigo Martinez has been brought in this summer with the aim to strengthen the defense, but he is currently not fit for competitive action. Thus, as he would not have been available for the Getafe match anyway, his registration has also been put on pending for now.
