Flamengo right-back Wesley França on the radar of Barcelona

Flamengo right-back determined to join Barcelona in January – report

Wesley França is among the few rising Brazilian talents that FC Barcelona has set their sights on. The 19-year-old right-back is currently established in the Brazilian club Flamengo. However, a recent report from SPORT claims that he is aware of Barcelona’s interest in him, and has instructed his agent to work on this potential move to Catalonia.

FC Barcelona and Flamengo have already met once to discuss the possibility of Wesley’s transfer. However, that meeting was not very fruitful. Flamengo were not willing to accept Barcelona’s conditions of a season-long loan with a non-mandatory purchase option. However, Barcelona will stick with these demands due lack of a manoeuvring space with Financial Fair Play rules.

Meanwhile, Wesley is making the fullest of his opportunities to establish his demand in professional football. He had an outstanding outing in the match against Bangu in Carioca Championship this Wednesday. He also scored with the Brazilian under-20, at 16 years, 6 months and 20 days. Thus, he bested the record previously held by Vinicius Junior to become the youngest player to score at that level.

These achievements are spurring optimism in Wesley’s camp about his dreamed move to Barcelona. On the Catalan end of things, Rafa Marquez’s activities are also a cause of optimism, as he is taking a keen interest in the teenager. Marquez intends to bring Wesley to Barcelona B, and join the likes of other highly promising teenagers like Lucas Román.
