Despite their economic and financial problems, which will keep them from operating at their best in the upcoming summer transfer window, FC Barcelona still have a clear idea of which players they want ahead of the next season’s start.
In this regard, their main priority is to sign a midfield pivot, and, as already reported, there are two main targets for them for this position. But in addition to a pivot, the Catalans are also looking to sign a left-winger.
According to SPORT, the player that most attracts the new Barcelona coach, Hansi Flick, for this position is the Athletic Club winger, Nico Williams.
The Barcelona sporting department has been monitoring the forward for some time now and had explained to the German tactician that if they had the required resources, they would sign Nico for this position. Flick fully agreed with this plan and already likes the player a lot.
As their economic situation makes any transfer moves uncertain for the Catalans, there are other players for this position whom they have also considered.
One such player is the Liverpool winger, Luis Diaz, who is liked a lot by Deco and is more of a team player while lacking the explosiveness offered by Nico. In the last few days, the Hull City winger Jaden Philogene’s loan has also emerged as an option for the Catalans.
As things stand, Barcelona have still not returned to the 1:1 rule, and thus cannot dream too much about their prospective signings next summer.
If they are able to sell some of their players this summer, they might have enough salary margin to make a move for Nico, who is clearly the first priority of the Blaugranes for this position.
If there are not enough sales, then Barcelona will try to pursue some other more affordable options ahead of Flick’s first season at the club.
